Become an Approved Re-use Centre

FRN runs the UK network of Approved Re-use Centres in order to:

  1. Audit and register or certify the operations and procedures of voluntary and community sector (VCS) re-use organisations to approved standards.
  2. Negotiate and broker contracts, services and supply on behalf of registered VCS re-use organisations.

ARC stands for Approved Reuse Centre. ARC membership is suitable for you if your organisation would benefit from a thorough audit and assessment of its quality management policies and procedures. It automatically provides you access to new, graded and quality pre-used items from major high street retailers and manufacturers at discounted FRN prices through partnerships created and nurtured by the FRN.

FRN auditing assessments are recognised by the Environment Agency and ISO 9001 for meeting the requirements of independent internal audits, and PAS 141 for WEEE. The FRN auditing and certification process is recognised by public sector commissioners; with many FRN members having secured contracts as a result.
By ensuring your organisation is compliant with health & safety, waste and other regulations, you will reduce or eradicate risk, eliminate fines or compensation claims. In addition, the FRN publishes regular updates with essential advice and information on changes in legislation, regulation and information that is important to you.

FRN’s UK network of Approved Re-use Centres?

Part of FRN’s operation is to help local reuse organisations have the profile and means to take on national contracts. We do this by:

  • establishing a national Reuse and Clearance service to the commercial and hospitality sectors, dedicated to products such as furniture and electricals through a network of ARCs (Approved Re-use Centres)
  • implementing new marketing strategy to generate new reuse business based on the modular services of the subscribers
  • negotiating more supply contracts – with a priority on the retail and hospitality sectors
  • undertaking quality audits of a greater number of organisations to be able to deliver these contracts
  • generating more goods and income for FRN enterprises
  • increasing the number of Approved Re-use Centres contracting through FRN

Auditing and Certification as an Approved Re-use Centre

Our Reuse Certification and Registration system is the only one in the UK designed specifically for the quality assurance of reuse operators. It is based on ISO principles plus operational standards and compliance requirements specific to reuse operators.

Quality Assurance Auditing Service

Our auditing service to the ARC members specifically looks at:

  • Documentation & Records
  • Management
  • Resources
  • Performance of work and/or provision of collection, reuse and repair services
  • Management verification & action In addition we offer a programme for documenting and installing a formal system and preparing subscribers for external certification to meet the following ISO certification standards - ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, and ISO 18001:2007 and also cover the requirements of other standards such as PAS141

The quality auditing service is helping re-users achieve all the above certifications in one go. Taking this opportunity would give each subscriber the highest possible profile and without doubt satisfy any potential, customers, partners or official body’s expectations.

I must admit; I was extremely sceptical about the procedure as we seem to be audited by all and sundry and it can be very intrusive and disruptive. May I therefore congratulate FRN and its auditors, as you have taken us through the process in a very professional and unobtrusive manner. It did not impinge on our activities in any way and it was carried out in such a fashion that everyone I have subsequently spoken to was impressed in the style you went about the audit.

Having my business systems scrutinised (especially by an outsider) was not something I was looking forward to. In fact I was dreading it (sleepless nights and panic, double checking everything I could think of). Many thanks for turning it from the harrowing the experience I was expecting, to a friendly, professional set of meetings.” With the re-use sector moving increasingly towards national partnerships with the private sector who have high service expectation; FRN Enterprises is taking the lead in ensuring that one standard of service is being offered by a growing number of reuse enterprises. By doing this we are now finding increasing numbers of retailers, manufacturers and logistics companies who want to work with the sector. FRN Enterprises is not only giving assurance of service, but is also providing a national profile for a growing network of Approved Re-use Centres that brokers more and more opportunities for the sector.
