toogoodtowaste Press Release.
This year marks the 20th anniversary for local leading social enterprise & re-use charity toogoodtowaste.
To celebrate the anniversary of toogoodtowaste, they are delighted to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to visit their Ynyshir branch on Monday 6th July.
During the visit, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will be given a tour of their charity showroom, warehouse and workshops where he will be introduced to many of the staff and dedicated volunteers along the way.
Amongst the many volunteers that His Royal Highness will meet are 2 long service volunteers, who provide a great deal of support and commitment to the organisation, despite facing difficulties in their personal lives.
Annette volunteers in the customer service department of their Ynyshir branch and she has done now for the past 5 years. When Annette first joined toogoodtowaste she had very low self-esteem and little confidence to interact with others as she felt she had nothing left to offer. With time and motivation, Annette developed skills through volunteering that has had a positive effect on overcoming many of the barriers and fears she had to face when during 2014 she became ill with Breast Cancer.
Another dedicated volunteer that will be introduced to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales is Paul. Like many young people who have little family support, Paul’s background involved a life of crime, drink and drugs, with an added mental health condition. Paul developed skills through volunteering that have had a positive effect on overcoming many of the barriers he faces on a daily basis, and now sees his role in life to give back something to the community and encourage others to see the benefits that volunteering can offer and change their lives for the better.
Lynda Davies, Chief Executive Officer said: “I am thrilled and honoured that the His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has decided to visit toogoodtowaste at such a monumental time in our history. Just over 20 years ago this organisation was granted £50 by the Princes Trust to establish and gather support to form a local community reuse project, during his visit he will be able to meet many of the dedicated volunteers who continue to help make a difference in our 20th anniversary year.”
toogoodtowaste will be closed to the general public on Monday 6th July for staff and volunteers to meet his Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. They plan to reopen their Ynyshir branch only at 1pm.
