It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Martin Brassington. Martin had been the manager of Essential Needs in Harrogate for over 20 years, but sadly was struck down by cancer and had been unable to work at all this year. He was committed to Essential Needs and was well respected by everyone he came into contact with and worked tirelessly to help those who sought help from the charity. Over the years that amounts to thousands of individuals and families who were on hard times, but were treated with fairness dignity and respect.
Martin was prepared to tackle modern devices such as debit card readers, the mysteries of Sage and our unique stock control/collection/selling/client registration and Gift Aid system, but was not sure about Facebook or Twitter. But thanks to him we have arrived in the 21st century, with a well-managed organisation that has stuck to his format for helping clients in need and at the same time maximising reuse and minimising land fill.
He was on the FRN board for several years and regularly attended the Annual Conference, where he masterminded the famous quiz and shared his experiences with passion and authority.
He leaves behind a much loved wife and daughters, to whom he was devoted. He was a good man who will be greatly missed. His legacy is our ongoing work.
