Training and Qualifications in the FRN network

FRN members access training for over 8,000 trainees per year in a variety of ways. Many are able to provide accredited and certified training courses including OCN and NVQ level s 1 & 2, thus ensuring a relevant qualification at the end of the training period.

During 2012, the FRN has accessed free training for volunteers across the network in England, by working with SWRAC (South West Regional Assessment Centre); they have a maintained budget with the Skills Funding Agency (SFA). So far, our members have applied for free training for 2000 volunteers. We’re looking for more re-use organisations to participate, but you do need to be members of FRN to benefit from this fantastic training opportunity.

Training is scheduled throughout 2013.

SWRAC are accredited to provide training which can lead to Driver’s Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualifications and waste management technical competence qualifications – skills and qualifications which are very relevant to the re-use sector. Below is an example of some of the training provided to FRN volunteers:

In addition, the FRN has just embarked on a unique partnership with WAMITAB - the leading awarding organisation for Waste, Facilities Management, Cleaning and Street Cleansing qualifications.

WAMITAB are a not for profit charitable trust and are working with FRN and our members to help increase the funding that members can draw down to upskill their existing workforce. Whilst we cannot guarantee the funding, we can help members to understand who in their organisation is eligible to receive the funding and the criteria they must meet. This is a free and impartial service, available only to FRN members.

WAMITAB has developed an online tool to analyse the eligibility of individuals. Age and existing qualifications will be taken into account. Employees, volunteers and trainees can work towards qualifications within the workplace or in the classroom.

Our aim is to draw down up to £5million worth of training to up-skill the workforce of FRN members, and to ensure that a competent and professional sector is able to meet the challenges and demands of providing compliant, safe and competent furniture re-use organisations.

FRN members should go to the Knowledge Bank - Employment, Training and Volunteering on the members page and click on the logo to register to check their eligibility for funding. This is a free service for active FRN members only.
